HEWITT: Donald Alfred

Farmer, husband, Dad, Granddad, and Great Granddad, Donald Alfred Hewitt of Plattsville, born on August 30th, 1924, died as he lived, peacefully in his 96th year at home. Surrounded by his favourite music and by the love, tears and laughter of his family.

His passing will leave a hole in the lives and hearts of his loving wife, Maxine (Hunter) with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on July 22, 2020, his "favourite" children Joan and Ed and their spouses Dean and Irene, his adored grandchildren, Zack (Dana), Kathleen (Johnathan), Cole (Jaynee), Cara (Ryan), Tricia (Cody), Kevin (Erin), Derek (Erin). And his new generation of Great Grands, Liam, Hudson, Taylor, Abigail, Gracie, Alita, Callum, Ben and Wyatt.

He outlived 7 of his 8 siblings, including his identical twin brother Douglas (1991) and he leaves his youngest sister Joyce, her husband Hans Lass and sister in laws Clara Wise and Elly Hunter to mourn his passing.

Relatives and friends may call at the Glendinning Funeral Home 40 William St., Plattsville on Sunday from 1-4 pm. Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday January 13, 2020 at 11:00 in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Plattsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the M.C.C. or the Woodstock Hospital Foundation (cheques accepted) would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences can be sent at

He would often remind us "you're going to miss me when I'm gone" and we will.

So sorry to hear of Don’s passing. Our condolences to Maxine, Joan and Ed and the entire family. I recall many good conversations with Don over the years when we met up. Very happy for the long and blessed life he lived.

Dear Maxine; Joan and family.
We are So very sorry to hear of Dons passing. Please accept our deepest heartfelt sympathy. Always loved spending time together and always enjoyed Dons stories and infectious smile. One of our best memories is of playing euchre with Don and Maxine....oh the giggles! When Rob and Brianne were of the age to chose whether to go out with us or stay home, they ALWAYS chose to go to Don and Maxine’s. Sending Bushell’s of love. John and Lori. XO

Most people will only live to experience one rollover of a century. When someone asks me "Where were you on December 31st 1999?", I will proudly say "I was at a fantastic family New Years party at Don (and Maxine) Hewitt's house in Plattsville!" Many great memories! You will be missed Don!

Dear Maxine and "Other Hewitts"
Not many will know of, leave alone remember, Helen Stauffer. I'm the last of the generation to which "the Hewitt twins" belonged. I certainly remember Don and Doug and their sisters and brothers when we all attended Blink Bonnie school. "The Hewitt Kids" used to short cut through our farm and sometimes stop for visits or take me along for a visit at their place. Of course we all lost touch over the years until I discovered that Don and Maxine had helped me with a memorial tree near the arena. He certainly had "the good life". You all should be very proud.
