Obituary for Norman P. Lemon

LEMON, Norman Peter

May 24, 1928 to August 20, 2022

Norman P Lemon passed peacefully at Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital on Saturday August 20, 2022 with family by his side after a lengthy illness. He leaves his lifelong friend and loving wife of 52 years Grace Lemon (Cowell).

Norman is sadly missed and survived by his sister Agnes (Allan) Savill, and Sisters and Brother-in-law Helen (predeceased Howard) and Colleen (predeceased George), Allan aka Pete (Carol) Cowell and Joan (Robert) Caffyn, and many nieces and nephews in the Lemon and Cowell families.

Predeceased by parents Joseph and Catherine Lemon, siblings Charles (Gerry), John (Erma), Gordon (Ann), Dorothy (Stacey) Phillips, Edith Jean and Florence Catherine, and brother-in-law Robert (Madeline) Cowell.

Grace would like to express her sincere appreciation to the many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours who kept in touch with visits and phone calls during his later years.

Norman was involved in agriculture for his entire life, having grown and raised various livestock and crops, and operated a milk route prior to bulk delivery. He was a school bus driver for 17 years. He also worked as a Woodstock City bus driver. His love was music. He was a member of the Norwich Musical Society Band for 64 years. He could be seen at various events playing the infamous Euphonium and Baritone. Norman was instrumental in having the band participate in various commemorative events, especially the Remembrance Day Service and Canada Day Parades. He always made sure that those who had left before were remembered at the Norwich Decoration Day service. He encouraged youth at various High Schools to enjoy music.

The Family, Friends and Norwich Community will always remember his sense of humour combined with his sincere caring side for those less fortunate than him.

The Family would like to express their thanks to the special home care assistance given to Grace over the past few years, including Dr. Jefferies, and the Nurses and PSWs that allowed Norman to stay in his home as long as possible before recently moving on to Courtland Caressent Care Retirement home.

Family and friends will be received at the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home, 45 Main Street West, Norwich, ON 519-863-3020, on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 6 - 8 pm, and Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 1 - 1:45 pm. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 2 pm. Interment to follow at the Norwich Cemetery.
