Van Bommel, Margaretha
On Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at Caressant Care Nursing Home in Courtland, Ontario, Margaretha Van Bommel, in her 94th year, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.

She is also survived by her sisters, Lea, Godelieve (Gus) and Henriette (Victor) and sisters-in-law Paula, Jose and Agnes in Belgium.

Margaretha was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (Joe) 2000 and her youngest child, Michel 2005, son-in-law Danny Cowan 1994, her parents, Dominiek and Maria Ludovica Van Opstal, her sisters Clara and Paula, brothers Frank and Willy as well as sisers-in-law, Simone, Anna, Catherina and Louisa and brothers-in-law, Jos, Jan, Jules, Adriaan, August, Jacobus and Eduard.

Born and raised in Winksele-Delle, Belgium, Margaretha and her husband, Joe, immigrated to Canada in 1956. They made their home in Otterville where they raised their 7 children. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and a hard worker who took great pride in her immaculate home and her wonderful home cooked meals. Her croquettes were legendary as was her carrot cake and the fresh apple pie she always had on hand for anyone who stopped in for coffee. She was happiest when cuddling and caring for her babies, whether they were her children, her grandchildren or later, her great-grandchildren, a baby in her arms put a smile on her face.

We want to thank Dr. Dockx and the wonderful staff at Caressant Care Courtland who have become like extended family to us over the past 9 years. A special thank you to Barb and Mary for watching over Mom when we couldn’t be there and always making sure she had what she needed, we will be forever grateful.

At Margaretha’s request, arrangements entrusted to the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home. There will be a private, family interment at Otterville Cemetery.

Donations in Margaretha’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
