Obituary for Kirsty Jean DOWNEY (Sharpe)

Kirsty Jean Downey of Waterloo, at the age 77, passed away peacefully on June 29th,2023 in Pallative Care at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born to Stephen and Florence Sharpe in Oakville on September 28th,1945 just hours before her twin sister Joan.

Jean and her siblings were raised on a farm on Trafalgar Road in a home that was built by their father, a skilled carpenter, which still stands today. Jean spent many years working as an administrative assistant, book keeper, small business owner and lastly a twenty year career as Controller at Schrieter's Furniture in Kitchener.

She is missed immensely by her son Stephen Glen Downey, her grandchildren Cassandra (Kyle) Miller and Zachariah Downey (Kelly), her twin sister Joan ( Warren) Graham, brothers Brian (Val) and Quentin (Donna) Sharpe, sister-in-law Beth Sharpe as well as her loving nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Stephen and Florence, Aunt Elizabeth & Uncle Jim Corbett, brother Dennis and nephew Kelly Sharpe, sister Anne and brother-in-law Darwin Cole and sister-in-law Marilyn Sharpe.

Thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ghali, Dr. Oolman, Dr. Trussler, ROWPS and all of the outstanding nursing and support staff at St Mary's and Freeport Hospitals for their compassion and care. As well as Jean's family and friends that spent many hours happily visiting and messaging her during her journey to the end. Special thanks to Chrissy Weber for her wonderful esthetician care and the members of the Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters Association for their immense show of sympathy and support.
