Obituary for Gordon Thomas CALDWELL

CALDWELL: Gordon Thomas - of Woodstock, formerly of Drumbo, passed away peacefully at Caressant Care on August 7, 2019. Born on April 19, 1938, son to the late Ethel and Thomas Caldwell,

Survived by his sons, Martin (Amber) of Princeton and Quentin (Brandy) of Kitchener; grandchildren Wyatt, Nolan, Davanee, Synnovae and Greyson; his wife of more than 30 years Barbara (nee Awde), and her extended family; his sisters Lois and husband Jake Leuszler, Ruth and husband Bill Strickler and brother Bill and wife Cheri-Lew Caldwell; and many nieces and nephews.

Gord was enthusiastic about commemorating the community through photography and participating in local events for many years. Passionate about antique cars and telling a tale or two about the good old days, Gord started work early learning the millwright trade from the late Percy Bowman in a local Drumbo shop eventually landing at the Westroc Gypsum mine in Drumbo for more than 15 years. Following the mine closure in 1995, Gord embarked on a number of fabricating stints finally settling in to a driving role with Bre-Haul Trucking until his retirement. A strong, authentic personality, Gord had his softer moments beaming with pride over his grandchildren, eager to share his latest pictures of them with anyone who was willing. He will be remembered for always being ready with a joke, a smile and a forceful handshake right until the end.

As cremation has already taken place, friends and family are invited to gather at the Drumbo Agricultural Hall on Saturday August 17th from 1pm to 4pm to exchange stories, pictures, memories and refreshments in celebration of Gord’s life. A private interment service will be held at the Drumbo Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to Sakura House (cheques accepted) would be appreciated. Personal condolences may be sent at www.gffh.ca

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Glendinning Funeral Home 40 William St., Plattsville.
