Obituary for Don McKay

Don McKay January 31, 1940 - February 3, 2023

With his furry four-legged best friend Mac by his side, Don McKay of Norwich passed away at the age of 83.

Don McKay was born January 31, 1940 to Robert and Betty McKay and grew up in New Durham. Don grew up a farm boy, enjoying all things agriculture and trucking. On August 7, 1965 Don married the love of his life, Jo Ellen (Hossack) of Thamesford.

Together Don and Jo grew a family and a business. Don and Jo raised four girls within Norwich, later moving to just south of town to further grow their business.

The trucking company changed over the years, but was always a family passion. He drove until he was 65 years old, when he decided that was enough. His “retirement” found him in the office overseeing operations, landscaping (grass cutting) and advising right up until his last day, with the odd game of solitaire on the side.

Don was a long time Legion member, where he also served as an executive member. Don was known to enjoy a beer or two there as well, while serving as the unofficial co- mayor of Upper Milldale.

Don will be remembered fondly by his loving wife Jo Ellen. His daughters and their families, Korinne (Phil) Thompson, Erin (Alex), Craig (Ari). Tara McKay Huys (Tom Boyce), Alex (Chauntel), Holly (Tanner). Karen McKay (Rick Stranges), Andrea (Ben), Danielle (Braden) & Nicholas. Dianne (Brandon) Wise, Brandi, Reese, and Brek. Don will also be missed by his sister in laws Marg McKay, Phyl (nee Hossack) Andy Jansons, and brother in laws Marty Hossack (Karen), Alex Hossack (Lisa). Don was predeceased by his parents Bob and Betty McKay, his sister Alice and her husband Jim, as well as his brother Bob.

Family and friends will be received at the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home, 45 Main Street West, Norwich, ON, on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 1:30-4 pm and 6-8 pm, and Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 12-12:45 pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 1 pm, with Janice Pow officiating. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 190, 55 Stover Street South, Norwich, ON, from 2:30-5:30 pm.

Donations made in memory of Don McKay to St. Joseph's Health Foundation in London will be directed to the Heart Failure Clinic or the Norwich Legion (Branch 190) to support the elevator fund.
