Obituary for Donald Frederick "Freddie" KREIGER

KREIGER: Donald Frederick “Freddie” – passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023 at the Woodstock Hospital. Fred Kreiger of Plattsville in his 79th year.

Fred is survived by his sisters Evelyn & husband Alvin Doering of Plattsville, Joyce Uberig of Kitchener, Cindy & husband Ron Bender, by his brothers Ken of London and Steve of Innerkip and by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his sisters Marion & husband Mel Riesberry, Anne & husband Terry Hoelscher, sister-in-law Pat Kreiger and brother-in-law Fred Uberig.

Fred was born on March 27, 1944, to the late Wilfred & Mildred (Beemer) Kreiger. When Fred was very small, he caught the Measles which affected his hearing. He spent time at School for the Deaf in Belleville, which he never liked. When he returned home, he worked on the family farm with the whole family. He later then took a job at the Plattsville Arena working with Elmer Baer until retirement. At the age of 51 it was time for him to move on his own and he then moved into the Glendinning Apartments where he lived for the last 27 years of his life. In the past few years Fred’s health declined and couldn’t get around as well and the wonderful friends he had made over the years, helped out and that allowed him to stay at home till the last 15 days.

Fred was very active in the community having not only worked at the arena, but many other of his ventures along the way that include, painting, snow blowing, cutting and selling wood, making and selling Sauerkraut and in the last few years cutting lawns to keep busy. He was also active over the years having helped as equipment manager for the Plattsville Combines during their successful years and the after that joining in 1999 the new Chesterfield Chestnuts to continue his involvement with hockey and being part of many more Championships. Although Fred had no children of his own there isn’t a kid in Plattsville that hasn’t been a part of Fred’s life in some way.

Relatives and friends will be received at Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William St. N. Plattsville on Friday from 6-8pm and Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 12:30 till 2:00pm when Words of Remembrance will be shared followed by interment in Chesterfield Cemetery. Following the burial, a time to “Toast to Freddie” will take place at “The Nest”
