Obituary for Catharine Elizabeth STAUFFER (Adams)

STAUFFER: Catharine Elizabeth - passed at home in Ayr surrounded by family after a brief illness on Sunday March 5, 2023, age 87.

Beloved wife of the late John Brotherston who predeceased her November 1, 2018. Loving mother of Laurie & husband John Daly of New York, Daniel & wife Donna of New Hamburg, Tim & wife Kathryn of Ayr and Elizabeth & husband Joe Mineo of Kitchener, Sons Richard, Terry, Steven & wife Lonnie Brotherston of St.Catharines. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Brittany & Davian, Zack & Chrissy, Brandon & Candace, Kristen & Travis, Alex & Mike, Joey & Therese, Benjamin & Sara, Madeline and by great grandchildren Nevaeh, Leniah, Jahraiya, Jahnaeya and Elijah, Nellie, Richard Jr. Survived by her sister-in-law Susan Hopkins-Adams.

Predeceased by her parents, brother Peter Adams (Sept 1999) and also by Daniel G. Stauffer (April 14, 2014).
Born in Niagara Falls Ontario, to Reginald and Ella Rose Adams (Willoughby), Cathie served as V.O.N. in St.Catharines and Welland, met and married Daniel G. Stauffer, and moved to Plattsville, raising their four children. Cathie partnered and operated Stauffer Farm Livestock Trucking, and Bright Sand and Gravel. She was a strong community activist, participating in “Damn the Dam” (proposed water project to flood the local area), and spearheaded a campaign for school bus safety that resulted in higher padded seatbacks, and driver seatbelts.

Cathie moved to the Grey Bruce area for the next 30 years, with husband John Brotherston after retiring from book keeping. They enjoyed many winters in Cedar Key, Florida.

Abiding by her wishes, cremation has occurred. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
